Week 1 of Fall Premieres: Hellcats, The Vampire Diaries, and Nikita (The CW, Wednesday and Thursday)

September 12, 2010 Leave a comment

Though I was one of the 50k viewers to get a sneak peek of the No Ordinary Family pilot in its entirety, this past week was the true beginning of the 2009-2010 TV season thanks to the CW’s premieres of new shows Hellcats (Wednesdays 9pm Eastern) and Nikita (Thursdays 9pm Eastern) along with returning favourite The Vampire Diaries (Thursdays 8pm Eastern). Well, it’s a favourite in my book. I know some still aren’t entirely convinced.

Which Salvatore brother would you take home?

Yesterday (technically Wednesday now), I got a nice little surprise in the mail: season 1 of The Vampire Diaries on DVD. Just under two weeks BEFORE the street date of August 31st.

Now everyone who has read my other The Vampire Diaries posts (either here or through the things I choose to reblog on Tumblr) knows I honestly couldn’t care less about the love triangle that perpetuates on the show because the show has so much more to offer than just that. (See this wonderful fan vid about the female agency/power on the show. Spoilers for everything but the season finale because, well, the vid went up before the finale hit TV screens.) But I’m supposed to write a blog entry on which Salvatore brother I’d take home based on this poll, which will allow you to get exclusive content before the DVDs hit stores should you partake.

So I chose Stefan. And here’s why. Spoiler alert! Reasons for Damon are also included.

So hi to everyone that’s still reading this blog. Like I said when I started the 30 Days of TV meme last month, I would be travelling to Australia soon after that was done, so there wouldn’t be much posting until I was back on American soil, but I had some time to write my initial report for the Supanova Expo in Sydney this past weekend so here it goes. I’ll share more (like photos) when I’m properly back since I don’t think I can FTP with my current Internet situation.

Day 30 – Saddest character death

Holy cow I’m done when I put up this post! Anyway, I knew I wanted to save Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the last day, but I kept on going back and forth on whose death was the saddest: Was it Buffy’s at the end of season 5 (not the death at the end of season 1) or was it Tara’s in “Seeing Red”? Or even Joyce Summers’s death that was dealt with in 5×16 “The Body”?

Ultimately, I have decided to go with Buffy’s death because even though she came to life once again for the 6th (and 7th) seasons whereas Tara remained dead and it caused Willow to go all Darth Rosenberg and flay Warren, it’s just so powerful. Seeing how Buffy’s sacrifice hit Dawn and others was brutal. Especially seeing how it impacted Spike. When I saw Spike’s reaction, well, like I said on Tumblr, that was when I knew I had become a fan of the guy. And having the realisation that I had become a fan of the guy, I knew Buffy’s death had to mean something powerful.

It’s just, Buffy fucking Summers. She is amazing and gave her life to the cause. I’m proud to end this meme with her.

So now that this meme is done, I can get along with packing for Australia. Check in with y’all in July!
